A Sicilian Christmas Eve Seven Fishes Dinner
Throughout southern Italy and Sicily, Italians celebrate Christmas Eve with a dinner of multiple fish courses featuring local seafood. The number of courses range from seven to thirteen with explanations varying as to why the number is chosen. But the tradition remains vibrant both in Italy and for Italian-American families. For over twenty years, Kathy Block-Brown has been serving a multiple-course fish dinner on Christmas Eve. While living in New Jersey and away from home for the first time at the holidays, Kathy joined her Italian-American friends for a Seven Fishes Dinner. The experience was so positive with her children that it became part of their own tradition at the holidays. In this class you will learn how to prepare some Sicilian-inspired favorites that you too may want to make part of your holiday experience.
