In 1966, Robert Mondavi left his family's winery (the Charles Krug Winery) to build his own facility in Napa Valley. Determined that Napa Valley could and would produce premium wines that would rival the best of Bordeaux, he set upon a mission to make his dream a reality. It can certainly be said that the American wine industry would not be where it is today if it was not for the pioneering efforts of Robert Mondavi, paving the way for many winemakers to follow.
