February 2007

Greetings!

My favourite way to celebrate Valentine's Day is at home, with my husband, Matt, eating an intimate dinner in front of the fire. If this is also your idea of bliss, we have some classes to help you prepare that special meal. And, this Sunday, Maya will teach a class on all there is to know about the "food of the Gods and Goddesses". We're talking chocolate, of course.

If, however, you prefer someone else to prepare your valentine's treat, read on for information about a small and intimate evening you can share with your loved one.

Whatever your choice, here's wishing you a
wonderful February. We'll soon have the spring classes listed on our website so stay tuned for those.

And, don't forget to "eat local" as much as possible.

    Valentine Day Celebration
    Valentine Day Dinner

Treat you and your loved one to a special valentine Day cooking class and romantic dinner. You don't have to wait in line or sit in a noisy, crowded room. Instead you'll share this romantic meal in a very intimate setting while also learning how to recreate the entire menu at home. Only 8 couples will be able to attend.

Review of "The Glorious Soups & Stews of Italy" by Domenica Marchetti
    Book review

Avoiding the all-too-predictable chocolate books, this month Judith instead opts for a comforting and warming book on the soups and stews of Italy. Her review just makes me want to get right in front of the stove and start stirring a big pot of steaming soup. Yum!

Salt of the Month: Porcini Salt
    Porcini Salt
Brand new - Porcini salt - produced in Abruzzo, Italy, by Nicola DeLaurentis (the maker of the acclaimed Cassina Rossa Truffle & Salt). The salt is a natural blend of sea salt, sun dried Italian porcini mushrooms, onion, garlic and other spices. Porcini Salt is a fabulous complement to pasta, risotto, and grilled meats. The wonderful aroma and flavor will transport you to Italy.

We've just received our first shipment and are really excited about it. Cynthia Nims, Seattle chef and author, was just here to teach a Wild Mushroom class, and she also raved about it.

As the salt of the month, we are offering the salt to you at a 10% discount. You can pick it up at the store (and avoid shipping charges), or we will happily ship it to you. The salt of the month purchase includes free recipes for using the salt.
