Dark Chocolate Brownies with Hazelnut Sea Salt By Josie Ross
These brownies are rich and fudgy, and perfect without the salt. With the salt, however, they reach a whole new level. The nutty hazelnuts, sweet and creamy chocolate, and salty crunch combine the best flavors and textures all in one luscious (and surprising) bite.
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 10 oz dark chocolate, chopped, and divided 1 cup butter, softened, plus more for the baking pan 4 eggs 2 cups granulated sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Hazelnut sea salt
Preheat the oven to 350. Combine the dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
Line a 13 x 9-inch baking pan with aluminum foil. Lightly grease the foil with butter.
In a saucepan, melt the butter and 7 oz of the chocolate. Melt it until it’s smooth. Set aside to cool.
Whisk the eggs together in a medium bowl. Add the sugar. Whisking constantly, stir in the vanilla and melted chocolate. Add the flour mixture and stir until combined. Stir in the remaining chocolate pieces. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for 20 minutes. Sprinkle the top of the brownies with hazelnut sea salt. Return to oven, bake an additional 15-20 minutes or until the brownies are set.
Remove from heat and allow to cool before slicing.
