Wambui Machua
Wambui Machua is an established business entrepreneur in the Portland metropolitan area. Since her arrival to the United States over 10+ years ago from her native home in Kenya. She stays involved locally, by incorporating her company Spice of Africa into the fabric of her community. Her first cooking classes were with Portland Community College, and thereafter, she branched out to offer her own company’s cooking classes which have proved wildly popular- serving over 600 individuals each year! Her classes incorporate educational as well as cultural elements. Wambui teaches traditional African cooking by touch, feel and sight as taught and passed on to her by her mother and grandmothers.
A Ph.D. candidate, in Educational Leadership, and Executive Director of newly founded non-profit; Mama na Watoto (Mother and Children), Wambui’s long-term vision is to build a library and community center in the village of Gachie she grew up in, that will offer education and empowering training to help individuals, families and the community towards self-sufficiency.
